Take That Human Scum!

Well, it’s good to know the two Koreas are still hard at work on that reconciliation and reunification thing. This AP report from a couple weeks ago (OK, I’m a little behind in my reading…) sort of says it all about the most recent round in the never ending song of love between the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

You gotta love the rhetoric of the DPRK calling RoK President Lee “human scum.” But, ahem, RoK Marines had been using pictures of the Great Leader, Eternal President Kim il Sung, the Dear Leader, Supreme Leader Kim Jong Il and the as-yet-unmonikered Kim Jong Un for target practice.

It’s actually a little worrisome that these two military powers remain on hair-trigger alert nearly 60 years after the armistice was signed between the UN forces and North Korea. Especially since the North Koreans have been sharing their missile technology broadly in the past few years as a way of bypassing crippling sanctions. And they’ve shown that their artillery and torpedoes are pretty good. I wonder if this sort of thing keeps Skip Sharp awake at night. It certainly would me.

Obama Cleverly Leading from Behind — Again

The quiet coalition has come together to reverse the decline of the opposition rebel forces in Syria, according to this nice front-pager in Wednesday’s Washington Post.  Much like in the case of Libya, the Obama Administration is hanging back and letting the local “market” determine his military response.  He simply refuses to take the strategic lead, which is frustrating to many and yet decidedly clever on his part.
