The Pentagon Can!

Singer Tom Smith has retooled The Candy Man, a song written for Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory film, and most famously covered by Sammy Davis Jr. in 1972. This video is now bouncing around the Pentagon, as its inhabitants seek to recover from yesterday’s budget roll out. Warning: Smith hails from Ann Arbor, so the rewrite has a liberal take. But it rings true. And it is funny.

I have to agree with jayackroyd (nothing short of amazing in and of itself), but “liberal take”?
    .
More like, too many people in government with too much time on their hands.
    .
Perhaps another re-write on how the entire government needs to be re-tooled, shutdown for days, weeks, maybe even months and then start all over again.

Reassuring that my point was clear.
    .
I suppose this is just a continuation of the “Liberals are soft on defense” Big Lie that the Beltway media has internalized.

Warning: Smith hails from Ann Arbor, so the rewrite has a liberal take.

Michigan’s new anti-tax Republican governor, Rick Snyder, also comes from Ann Arbor.

Lord save us from journalists who paint their stories with a stupidly big brush.

You know what else the Pentagon can…take themselves too f@cking seriously. “Mixes work with pain” could describe half the work-lives in the country and most of them are trying to produce something better than the death of others.

Thanks very much for the mention. I must point out, however, that I did not actually write the parody. The person who wrote those lyrics wanted a good recording of them, and so I did it. And the video came after.

And, honestly, “liberal take”? I mean, I AM a flaming liberal progressive hippie, no question, but I thought it was pretty much right down the center… if you happen to work at the Pentagon. ;)

    Best,
    Tom Smith

The author of the song and producer of the video is one Lt. Col. Matthew Hurley who works at the Pentagon and is apparently not very happy about it….but seems to have plenty of time on his hands.

“Furore1″ is not well informed at all. Also, trying to out an anonymously-posted video’s producer is well below low. You should be ashamed of yourself. So should a certain pastor.
