Medal Of Dishonor?

Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta received the Medal of Honor on Tuesday / White House photo

I know there are some soldiers fighting for us today who are glad Bryan Fischer isn’t serving alongside them. The alleged pro-family blogger complained the other day that the Medal of Honor is becoming “feminized” because it’s being awarded to soldiers who have saved comrades instead of killing the enemy (be sure to check out the comments appended to his calumny, um, column):

When we think of heroism in battle, we used the think of our boys storming the beaches of Normandy under withering fire, climbing the cliffs of Pointe do Hoc while enemy soldiers fired straight down on them, and tossing grenades into pill boxes to take out gun emplacements. That kind of heroism has apparently become passe when it comes to awarding the Medal of Honor. We now award it only for preventing casualties, not for inflicting them.

Fighting an elusive, guerrilla-like force doesn’t offer up many beaches to storm (especially in land-locked Afghanistan) or pill boxes to attack. You honor your heroes where you find them, Mr. Fischer. Intrepidity – one of those great words in Medal of Honor citations – means “resolutely courageous; fearless” and it plays both offense and defense. Always has, always will. And the grunts to the left and right of those so decorated would have it no other way.

I’d like for this guy to tell anyone who survived and recieved a medal of honor feminine, including the group the recipient served with.

I’d like to see who whimper first. I guess it boils down to another one of those things liberals do – they have feminized the ‘sacred’ medal of honor now. What is it with these macho men and their need to make their opponents less than manly men? Are they so damn insecure that unless you become a bullit sponge there are no other way to show that you’re a hero?

  • Buzz Feedback

We have an all-volunteer force if Mr. Fischer would like to join up and show us how a real man wins the Medal of Honor.

  • charlieromeobravo

Why don’t we drop Fischer into a war zone with 60 pounds of gear on his back and a fully loaded M-16 and see if he does anything medal worthy?

Here are the ‘undistinguished’ bunch of feminine ‘heroes’ (and only one person is still alive to deal with the ‘shame’)

    Afghanistan

Salvatore Giunta For risking his life to save a wounded soldier from being captured. Is the first living recipient since the Vietnam War

Robert James Miller* Fatally shot while diverting gunfire from Taliban forces in Afghanistan so that his fellow comrades could escape.

Jared C. Monti* Killed while trying to rescue a wounded soldier from intense small arms and rocket-propelled grenade fire

Michael P. Murphy* Led a four-man reconnaissance team in a fight against superior numbers, exposed himself to hostile fire in order to call for help

    Iraq

Jason Dunham* Fought hand-to-hand with the enemy and hurled himself on a grenade to protect fellow Marines

Ross A. McGinnis* Saved the lives of four soldiers by diving on a grenade while inside HMMWV (Humvee)

Michael A. Monsoor* Saved the lives of his fellow SEALs at his sniper position by diving on a grenade

Paul R. Smith* Held the enemy at bay allowing for the wounded to be carried out.

Do not doubt for one second that militant, virulent feminists like Obama and Obama’s thousands of red-eyed feminists who infest his administration are just dying (dying!) to find a female member of the United States military to award a Medal of Honor. Obama would especially like said female service member to be a lesbian and a racial minority. Obama and his fellow feminists are scouring the ranks (24/7!!!) to find her. Expect the predictable orgasms from Obama’s useful idiots (i.e., the Washington/New York/American/European (Arab?) press corps) when Obama “finds” her.

  • bobcn1

Why not? Because he’d probably get the soldiers around him killed. He’s just another loud mouthed chicken hawk whose expertise in warfare comes from watching John Wayne movies.

  • bobcn1

You have a very twisted imagination.

Jesus will you please get back on your meds before you hurt yourself or someone else.

And FYI a woman has already recieved the Congressional Medal of Honor. Dr. Mary Edwards Walker.

Textee – not to worry – all these red-eye’d feminists can still beat your worse than your hand can a wet dream.

As a nation of peace and as a role model for self governing republics the US must promote life!

I recall a tombstone marker of a man kicked out of military for his orientation.Maybe it was Korean war.

    Something like this—-
“They gave me a medal for killing a man and a discharge for loving one.”

Does this clown actually think that of the 3,400+ CMHs that have been awarded over the last century and a half, that none were awarded for saving lives before the wars in Aghanistan and Iraq?
    .
How many recipients threw themselves on hand grenades to save the lives of their comrades?
    .
And SSG. Guinta DID inflict enemy casualties when he returned and directed fire on the insurgents. That’s what the after action review reported.
    .
    What an A-hole.

This guy have never seen combat; the worst fight he have been in was over the 20 cents a pound frozen turkey a week before Thanksgiving. It was hardfought and he asked his wife to drop on the 25 pounder on the ground to save the holidays while he stormed over to the sweet potatoes against all odds.

Then there was the war over Christmas when Walmart said they had holiday trees.

My guess is that the writer wanted to allude to the pending DADT issue and its possible overturn. The Medal of Honor is being feminized and that’s just gay. Jesus would not approve.
    .
But what struck me on this right wing site was the apparently uncensored comment section which was pretty much condemnatory. I don’t know what that means, but I do know that right wingers do normally control their message.

I don’t know who this guy is, but I can say one thing. I watched Sal Guinta in interviews and receiving the Medal of Honor. He deserves it 100%. He is a true hero. Further, he exemplifies everything good in this country: bravery, humility, empathy, compassion and warmth. Sadly, those are attributes seldom seen in this country today where greed, selfishness, polarization, lies and distortions of truth previal. We only have to look at our Congress, Wall Street and the Tea Party.

Obviously, Mr. Fischer has NEVER read many of the citations of those who received the MOH during the Civil War. Many of those were given out for retrieving the National Colors or capturing enemy colors during the heat of battle. The MOH has been given out for many reasons and nothing should be taken away from those who have received it. This man deserved it. And he is the first to tell you that many others deserve it more than he does.

A year or so ago, I was randomly flipping through old medal of honor records from WWII and I recall finding one in the middle of the Pacific theater for a Private who gave his life so his fellow soldiers could escape. Sure, he was attacking a pillbox and advancing on the enemy while they retreated back to the boats to get out of there, but the point remains – perhaps the actions of saving the lives of your fellow soldiers are not ones to get overlooked. He risked, and likely knew he was sacrificing, his life for the purpose of ensuring his fellow soldiers survived. That is epitome of bravery – not the bravado to go headlong into battle for glory but to save the lives of your brothers-in-arms by knowingly and intentionally risking or perhaps sacrificing your own life. That is the true highest standard we should all strive to achieve, and a fact that the Neocon chickenhawks have never had to learn.

Um, whatever happened to “No greater love hath a man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends”?

I mean, I know some long-haired hippie said that, but since the right always drags him into their conversations, I figured they must like him.

Although, now that I think about it, this hippie didn’t man up and take out any Romans for the cause, but just went meekly to his own sacrificial death.

Man, Jesus was such a girl …

  • rcrogers6

Why do we even take notice of some random blogger’s idle thoughts? Even the author of this article is unfamiliar with the facts. He moved forward into the ambush, he fired, he retrieved his fellow soldiers, he directed his fire team element’s fires, he threw grenades, and he killed an insurgent by direct fire.

Charging into the fire three time and leading others forward – that’s what it is all about. These living room warriors should be despised for the vermin they are.

Mark, I linked to Fischer’s comments yesterday on a Swampland thread. I found them dispicable.
Here is some information on Fischer you might have shared:

Fischer is a darling of the Republican social theocrats.
Reading his biography he seems to join other hate talkers such as Limbaugh and Cheney who avoided service but like to impugn the bravery of others.

    From the tpmmuckraker site:

“Fischer is a favorite of social conservative Republicans, and spoke at the Values Voter summit this fall alongside Mitt Romney, Jim DeMint, and other big-shot Republicans.”

    Nuff said.
